The front of the base of the thumb has been opened. The local nerve branches are shown

The joint at the bottom of the thumb has been opened

The canal i.e. interior of the thumb metacarpal bone is cleaned out

The bone cut at the base of the thumb metacarpal is made with a special jig

The thumb metacarpal is burred to accommodate the end of the implant

The pyrocarbon implant is being inserted

The wound has been closed with an absorbable stitch. The very good thumb range of movement is shown
